The Particle Technology Forum was devised in the 1990s as an informal UK national conference bringing together researchers, especially young researchers, active in all aspects of particle technology in the UK. This year, the Forum is extending a warm invitation to participants from all over Europe and beyond.

The forum was established to support developments in the subject and to promote networking between different research groups, students and industry. The primary supporters of the forum are the IChemE Particle Technology Subject Group.

The forum is an annual event and is hosted by university departments in rotation. The 2007 forum was held at Cambridge University. The forum is operated on a break-even basis, with the emphasis on keeping costs down to encourage attendance by young researchers.

About Heriot-Watt University

Founded in 1821, the Edinburgh School of Arts was the first mechanics institute in the UK, later to become the Watt Institution and School of Arts. Heriot-Watt University was established by Royal Charter in 1966, commemorating two champions of Scottish technology, commerce and education: George Heriot, financier to King James VI & I and James Watt, the great 18th century Scottish engineer and steam power pioneer.

Events at the Forum:

Logo Competition New this year

Since the UK Particle Technology Forum first met in 1999 at Aston University, Birmingham, it has not had a logo to represent its standing in the world of particulate research. We are inviting delegates to this year's Forum to devise a Logo to represent the Forum in the future.

Young Researchers' Award

The shortlist of six finalists has been announced. See the YRA page.

Each year, the Particle Technology Subject Group of IChemE organises a competition for postgraduate students in particle technology. The finalists will give a presentation at the Particle Technology Forum and the prize-winners will be announced at the Forum Dinner. For more information about the competition, check the YRA page.

Poster Competition

Participants in the Forum are encouraged to present posters. Prizes will be awarded for the best student posters.

Go to the Programme page to see full details of the schedule of events.

Sponsors

We aim to keep the cost of attending the Particle Technology Forum as low as possible to encourage participation by research students as widely as possible. We receive sponsorship from a number of sources. We are very grateful to all our sponsors for their contributions.
